Sixteen Tiger lifters competed at the Michigan High School Powerlifting Association State Finals on March 9th and 10th at Lake Orion High School. Medals were awarded to the top ten finishers in each weight class for women’s and men’s JV and Varsity.
In the JV competition on Friday night, Heather Crosby took 10th place in the women’s 198 lb. class, Abbi Konicki took 5th place in the women’s 181 lb. class, Treyton Railling took 7th place in the men’s 165 lb. class, and Jarett Railling took 3rd place in the men’s 207 lb. class.
In the women’s Varsity competition on Saturday morning, Brecinda Hernandez took 9th place in the 198 lb. class.
Saturday afternoon saw the men take to the platforms. T.J. Railling took 8th place in the 194 lb. class, Chaise Konicki took 2nd place in the 242 lb. class, and Jared Evans was state champion in the 181 lb. class.
Prior to the medal ceremony, the MHSPLA President presented one male and one female lifter with a $500.00 scholarship. Any senior who is enrolled in high school full time and is currently lifting for their high school team was eligible to apply. Grant High School’s Jared Evans was the recipient of the male lifter scholarship.
