Game Recap

The Grant Tigers hosted Districts and were matched up in the first round to play the Belding Black Knights. The Tigers came out swinging and took the match 3-0; set one 25-12, set two 25-17, set three 25-17.

Olivia Keelean contributed 15 kills while Kylie Patton contributed 13. Nicole Whan added 39 assists. Defensively Taylor Wegener led on defense with 11 digs, followed by Jill Arends and Olivia Keelean each with 7 digs. Kylie Patton added 3 blocks at the net. The service line offered an opportunity for aces. Jill Arends had 3 aces, Kendall Wilkerson, Nicole Whan, and Olivia Keelean added 2 aces each, and Brooklyn Presler added one ace.

Grant’s overall record moves to 40-12-5. The Tigers move on to the District semi-finals against league opponent Fremont on Wednesday night at Grant Middle School at 7 pm. Fans are encouraged to wear orange to support the team!

Meet Recap

The Tigers are headed to Michigan International Speedway to compete at the State Finals after the entire team ran personal best times at the Regional meet that was hosted by Allendale. The Shrew, The Crane, and The Dragon earned medals by placing in the top 15 at the meet. The Fly and The Mole completed the scoring for the Tigers as they both broke the 18 minute barrier. Also running varsity for GHS were The Bear and The Rhino.

Meet Recap

Although the weather was wet and cold, the Lady Tigers turned in some outstanding performances as their top five all broke 24 minutes. Elizabeth Gates led the way for the team breaking 21 minutes, and her new PR gets her on the Top 10 board. Also running varsity for the team were Gracie Bearup, Maggie Whitney, Zoe Zimmerman, Samantha Fryling, Ashley Bearup, and Madelyn Harvey.

Game Recap

Grant came out scoring, first score was by Johann Vega from a pass by Colin Magin. Shortly after that Gabriel Reis scored from a pass from Alberto Macias, next goal was by Luis Corona off a steel, fourth time was by Johann Vega again with the assist going to Tyler Naffziger, and the fifth goal was by Gabriel Reis with the assist going to Michael Frey. At half time the score was Grant 5 Kent City 0. Second half Kent City put one in the net, but Grant came back and scored one more time by Alberto Macias with the assist going to Tyler Naffziger. Top interceptors were Colin Magin with 46, Michael Frey with 31, and Alberto Macias with 24. Goal Keep Javi Jasso had 15 saves.

Game Recap

The Grant Tigers took home the championship at the Central Montcalm Tournament this Saturday. Grant sailed through pool play defeating Morley Stanwood 25-13, 25-14; Pellston 25-11, 25-12; and Reed City 25-2, 25-16. Advancing to the Gold Bracket as the number one seed, the Tigers were matched against league rival Tri-County for the semi-finals. Grant played tough and defeated them in two sets 25-15, 25-19. The Tigers were then set up to rematch Corrunna who they had lost to last weekend at the North Branch Tournament. Grant came out strong and redeemed themselves against Corunna in two sets, winning 25-17, 25-15 to claim the title of champions.

Stat leaders on the day with kills were Olivia Keelean with 40, Kylie Patton with 32, and Taylor Wegener with 31. Strong defensive play from Libero Jill Arends with 42 digs and Taylor Wegener with 38. Kylie Patton added 10 blocks on the day while setter Nicole Whan tallied 131 assists. Serving aces were chipped in by Nicole Whan with 7 and Kim Settlemyre with 5.

The Grant Tigers move to a record of 39-12-5 as they prepare to host Districts starting on Monday. The Tigers play Belding Monday night at 7 pm for the first round of districts.

Game Recap

Grant travelled to Coopersville to compete in a Quad on Thursday night. The night started against the Class C ranked Ravenna Bulldogs. Grant came out strong, winning 25-17, slowed in set two losing 17-25, but ultimately winning 15-9. The second match was against Class B ranked Coopersville. Grant served tough and was able to connect with junior middle Kylie Patton more frequently, leading to a 25-19, 25-17 win for the Tigers. The final match of the night was against Vicksburg Bulldogs. Grant came ready play, winning in two, 25-21, 25-17.

Strong hitting production came from Kylie Patton with 26 kills on the night, Olivia Keelean with 16, and Kendall Wilkerson with 11. Setter Nicole Whan assisted 74 kills and added 5 service aces. Jill Arends led the team in service aces with 6 on the night. Defensively the team was led by Taylor Wegener with 30 digs and Nicole Whan with 26.

The Tigers move to 34-12-5 on the season. They will be in action again this Saturday at Central Montcalm. Then home October 30 for Districts at 7 pm against Belding.

Game Recap

The Grant Tigers travelled to North Branch on Saturday to play in a strong tournament filled with state-ranked teams and Class A teams. Grant came out of the tournament with one win and three losses. The three losses came against two state-ranked teams: North Branch 13-25, 15-25 and Cadillac 15-25, 17-25. Grant also lost to Corunna 21-25, 26-24, 11-15. Their only win was against Troy Athens 25-18, 25-23.
Hitting leaders were Olivia Keelean with 31 kills on the day, followed by Kylie Patton with 28 kills. Jill Arends led with serving aces with 5, followed by Olivia Keelean with 3. Nicole Whan tallied 83 assists. Dig stats were strong with 34 for Olivia Keelean, 33 for Jill Arends, and 32 for Nicole Whan. Kylie Patton had 8 blocks and Olivia Keelean had 5 blocks.

The Tigers move to a 31-12-5 overall record. They play again at Coopersville on Thursday.
