Game Recap

The Freshmen Tigers traveled to Chip Hills on Thursday and came away with a 57-14 win over the host Warriors. The Tigers were led in scoring by Chase Whitelow with 15 pts followed by Morgen Manlick with 13 and Tyler Naffziger with 12. The Tigers next game is at Sparta on Tuesday, February 2….;hope to see you there and thanks for supporting Tiger Basketball.

This was Chase Whitlow’s last game as a Tiger as he is moving to Cedar Springs. Not only did Chase lead his team in scoring, but he also hit three 3pt FGs from deep in the corner. From the reaction of his teammates and Tiger faithful, I would say that draining those 3’s was somewhat of a “Bucket List” moment. It has been my pleasure to coach Chase in Football and now Basketball this year and on behalf of the entire Grant Basketball Family we would like to wish Chase the Best of Luck in all his future endeavors.

Game Recap

Last night the Tigers won a huge conference game, tonight they had to lace them back up as the Ravenna Bulldogs came to town.

In the first quarter, defense was the name of the game. “We picked right up where we left of yesterday,” said Grant coach Josh Delamater. “We limited the inside shots and forced them to take contested shots from the outside. Unfortunately, we got complacent.” Complacency saw the Tigers trailing going into half behind a 3-20 second quarter for Ravenna. “We stopped playing defense and we started missing easy shots. That lead to gambling all over the floor which is never a good thing.”

The second half was a different story. The Tigers came out and put the clamps down defensively. The Bulldogs managed just six point in the second half. Delamater added, “We pressed them to up their tempo. We wanted them to get impatient and take poor shots and it worked. Long misses are always as good as turnovers and we capitalized on them.” The final for the evening 47-29 Grant.

Mason Powell and Riley Patterson both had great games for the Tigers. Powell ended the game with 13 points, 16 rebounds and 3 block. Patterson scored 12 points, dished out 6 assists and had 6 steals. Senior guard Garrett Bomay added 8 points.
